We
reached the port by tender |
Our goal was to
explore the famous "Seven Mile Beach" which is actually 5.2 miles
long
It is #5 on the map, a 20 minute walk from the harbor |
Joe
considered another option
A helicopter ride over the island
Maybe next time?
We walked the main road to access the beach
Local
wildlife by the side of the road
Hope he avoids KFC across the street
The
closest beach access was quite rocky and deserted |
Lovely unusual coral |
and marine life, some so small they looked
like pebbles |
Further
along the shoreline was the white sand of the brochures |
All along the beach were private homes, condos and hotels
but
no one is allowed to own the beach or
make it inaccessible to the public
Sometimes high tide meant to wade in the water
if we wanted to
continue or
return to the main road to get around the problem
That is exactly what we did
Back
to the beach. The ship is getting further away |
These
huge trees presented another obstacle during high tide
This time I mistimed the wave and just got wet
A
visitor from Germany found this perfect conch shell
and gave it to me
The beach was every bit as beautiful as advertised |
Back
on the main road to return to the ship
While waiting for the bus or taxi, I realized the image on my
shirt matched the giraffe sculpture,
minus the sun glasses, of course
