Churches of Vilnius

Europe
The St Anne and Bernardine complex includes St Ann Church (1500) and St Francis Church (1516) The belfry on the right was constructed in 1802
One Sunday Mass is celebrated in English, but we attended the Lithuanian litury so I could hear the prayers Dad taught me 60 years ago.
"Our Father" (Teve Musu) and the "Hail Mary" (Sveka Maria) during the recitation of the rosary before mass

From our hotel we could see 3 other churches
Cathedral Square - the site of the Vilnius Archdiocese
The bottom half of the belfry is a former defensive tower
of the Vilnius lower castle
This is a "Confessional"
where the priest and those confessing their sins
are in full view (and earshot?) of anyone around.
Tradition and courtesy dictate maintaining a discreet distance.

Here we are in chapel of the University of Vilnius
A student is telling us about life there
If your grades and test scores are good enough,
your tuition is covered by the state.
Otherwise, the cost is $2,000 per year

The Gates of Dawn is the only remaining gate of the city wall built in the 1500s
It includes a chapel with a golden icon of the Virgin Mary (a Black Madonna)

The Church of St Peter and St Paul (1701)
has a beautiful baroque interior
A First Communion Mass was being celebrated
so this is the only photo I could get
