The St Anne and
Bernardine complex includes St Ann Church (1500) and St Francis
Church (1516) The
belfry on
the right
was constructed in 1802
One Sunday Mass is celebrated in English, but we attended the Lithuanian
litury so I could hear the prayers Dad taught me 60 years ago.
"Our Father" (Teve
Musu) and the "Hail Mary" (Sveka Maria) during the recitation of
the
rosary
before
mass

This is a "Confessional"
where the priest
and those confessing their sins
are in full view (and earshot?)
of
anyone around.
Tradition and courtesy dictate
maintaining a discreet distance.

Here we are in chapel of the University of Vilnius
A student is telling us about life there
If your grades and test scores are good enough,
your tuition is covered by the state.
Otherwise, the cost is $2,000 per year

The Gates of Dawn is the only remaining
gate of the city wall built in the 1500s
It includes a chapel with a golden icon of the Virgin Mary (a Black
Madonna) |
