Day 2 - November 9th (2018)
Back to Galapagos Index
November 2018
Machu Picchu
Galapagos

We spent the entire day at various locations
of Floreana Island

Hiking and Snorkling
at Punta Cormorant

Kayaking around Champion Islet

Hiking at Post Office Bay

The Island was the site of the infamous
tale of love, hate and murder in the 1930s
dramatized in the movie
"The Galapagos Affair Satan Came to Eden"
This peak of an eroded volano is called the "Devil's Crown"
A ship exactly like ours on the same journey
My wetsuit for our 3 snorkling excursions
This tree is related to our dandelions
It's size is due to the isolated environment of the islands
This is how they seed pods look in the growing season
Across the lagoon is a flock of nesting flamingos
including babies
A few came close enough for my camera phone photos
A walk on the beach
Even carpenter bees contribute to the ecological balance
Depressions in the sand were made by nesting sea turtles
They must not be disturbed.
That is why tourists MUST be accompanied by a guide AT ALL TIMES
Everything has a background story
I'm excited to learn more
What a beautiful place!
Looking closely, mama sea lion has babies under that ledge
Time to snorkle and checkout life under the sea
Now I wish I had an underwater camera for our amazing adventures under the water & kayaking on it
Back onboard and off to our next adventure
We need the zodiacs for these views of Champion's Islet
Look closely to see the alpha male patroling in the water
to protect his colony from predators

After lunch on board we kayaked to an area where a sea turtle swam around and under our kayak.
I REALLY should have brought a water proof camera. Now the images only exist in my mind
Back on the island we hiked to one of the most famous sites in the Galapagos
The World's Oldest Post Office
Beginning in the 18th century it was used by pirates and whalers to leave messages.
Today tourists use it hoping someone will pass their mail on to its destination

Time to return to the ship
